We know Apple iPhone 4S is announced with 200 hours of standby time, compared to the iPhone 4's 300 hours while is supposed to offer up to 8 hours of 3G talk time, 14 hours of 2G talk time, 9 hours of and six hours of 3G internet use, and up to nine hours browsing with Wi-Fi. According to this specs, it features longer battery life. However, it is proved to be with excessive battery consumption problem in practical application.
Since the release of iPhone 4S, many users have been complaining iPhone 4S battery drain too fast. From news, networks, forums, etc, you can find its battery issues have started to pile up over these days. Someone has written, " Hundreds of people are reporting on social networks that the iPhone 4S is running out of power far sooner than expected and much quicker than Apple promised, according to Mercury News reports". BBC news announced that in some cases, people claimed that their phone battery was draining by up to 15% every hour, even when the device was not being used.
Several days ago, there was news saying that setting time zone feature should be claimed to be culprit for iPhone 4S battery draining issues. According to the news there are persons who noticed when user switches this feature OFF, the standby time has gone up significantly and the "Setting Time Zone" ends up tracking constantly instead of periodically, causing the battery time to be severely cut down.
However, it seems not to solve the fundamental problem. Scan threads of views and replies on Apple's forums and you can find a few people find it effective. "Already had this option turned off and my 4S's battery life is still terrible. Perhaps the time zone setting did cause some battery drain, but there's still an issue elsewhere. I can only imagine that it's related to Siri or another difference in the iOS 5 software for the 4S versus the 4, because my 4 has a super battery in comparison." wrote a user on Apple's support forums.
For a relatively long time, Apple did not comment publicly on the problem and company representatives didn't respond to requests for comment. But Apple engineers have quietly contacted some users who have complained about the problem, according to The Guardian report.
There are finally news reports stating that Apple officially admitted the iPhone 4S is having battery issues. Apple's Natalie Harrison said the problems were with iOS 5 itself and affect more devices than just the iPhone 4S. "A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices," Harrison said. "We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life, and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks."
Although there are several battery life saving tips that have hit the Web over the past couple of weeks such as turning off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and the above mentioned setting time zone feature, a few of the tips have worked for some. We expect the software to tackle the root problem.
